रोहित शर्मा आणि केएल राहुल च्या अनुपस्थितीत भारताला चांगली सुरुवात करून देण्याची जबाबदारी शुभमन गिलवर होती. मात्र या युवा सलामीवीराला आव्हान पेलता आलेले नाही. पहिल्या डावात गिलने चांगली सुरुवात केल्या नंतर अवघ्या १७ धावांच्या वैयक्तिक धावसंख्ये वर आपली विकेट गमावली होती. त्याच बरोबर दुसऱ्या डावातही त्याला मोठी खेळी करता आलेली नाही.
